Dirt work — also called site prep, grading, or earthwork — is the foundation phase of every construction project. It includes stripping topsoil, cutting and filling to design elevations, building pad sites, shaping drainage swales, compacting subgrade, and finishing to the spec required by the next contractor. On a typical Hill Country project we run dozers and excavators in sequence: clear and strip, rough grade, drainage, compaction, finish grade.

The Hill Country adds two layers of complexity most other regions don't have: rocky, shallow soils sitting on limestone (which often requires rock grinding to hit elevation), and clay-heavy zones that need careful drainage planning to avoid foundation problems down the road. We handle both.

Versus hiring an excavator operator off Craigslist: licensed, insured crews that work to written elevation specs and build pads that pass inspection. Versus skipping or shortcutting dirt work: every later trade benefits — foundations sit on properly compacted base, driveways drain correctly, and pasture and pond shaping doesn't have to be redone.

On-site walk with you (and your builder if applicable), review of plans or owner-marked elevations, fixed project quote. Work proceeds in stages — clear and strip, cut and fill, drainage, compaction, finish grade — with photos at each stage and a final walk-through to confirm the pad is ready for the next trade.
