Question 1

Isn't manual tree removal more eco-friendly than forestry mulching?

Accepted Answer

Forestry mulching processes cedar and brush where they stand. Instead of cutting, stacking and hauling debris off, the material is ground into a mulch layer that stays on your land, protecting thin, rocky soil and holding moisture. There are no burn piles and no haul-off.

Question 2

How much does forestry mulching cost per acre in the Texas Hill Country?

Accepted Answer

$2,300 per day — one flat rate across our Hill Country territory. On flatter terrain with light brush, we clear up to 3 acres per day. In dense, hilly and rocky terrain, it's closer to half an acre a day. Every property is walked, and the scope of work and quote are agreed before we start.

Question 3

What's cheaper — forestry mulching or bulldozing?

Accepted Answer

Forestry mulching, in almost every case. The mulcher grinds cedar and brush right where it stands, so you don't pay for hauling, dump fees or burn piles. The mulch layer protects the soil instead of leaving bare dirt to wash out. Dozer clearing only makes sense when you need bare dirt for a house pad, slab, driveway or pond, and that usually comes with haul-off costs on top.

Question 4

Do you charge per acre, per hour, or per project?

Accepted Answer

Forestry mulching, cedar removal, wildfire mitigation, selective clearing and trail cutting run $2,300 per day. You can choose a project price or our day rate. The scope of work and quote are agreed before we start.

Question 5

How long will my project take?

Accepted Answer

It depends on acreage, density and terrain. On flatter ground with light brush, forestry mulching covers up to about 3 acres per day. In dense cedar on rocky, hilly ground, it's closer to half an acre per day. We'll give you a timeline with your quote.

Question 6

Will your equipment damage my property?

Accepted Answer

Our machines use rubber tracks that distribute weight evenly, minimizing ground disturbance. In sensitive areas, we use heavy-equipment mats to protect turf. We work around heritage trees, septic fields, and irrigation lines you point out before we start.

Question 7

Do you remove large trees?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our mulchers handle brush, saplings and trees up to 12 inches in diameter as standard. Larger trees can be mulched by request. They take longer to grind down, so they add time to the job, and that's reflected in your quote. We can also remove large trees and stumps with dozer and excavator work. We work around the mature trees you want to keep, especially oaks.

Question 8

Will the brush grow back after mulching?

Accepted Answer

Cedar doesn't resprout from the stump once it's cut below the green. New cedar comes back from seed, mostly from cedar still standing nearby, so a maintenance pass every few years keeps regrowth small. The mulch layer slows regrowth but doesn't stop new seedlings. Mesquite is different — it resprouts, so mesquite removal is preferably done with grubbing methods.

Question 9

Are you insured?

Accepted Answer

Yes — Legacy Oak Land Clearing carries general liability and equipment insurance. We can provide a Certificate of Insurance to your HOA, builder, or lender on request before we start.

Question 10

Do I need a burn permit?

Accepted Answer

Only for dozer and grubbing work, and only if you choose to burn the brush piles instead of hauling them off. Burn rules and permit requirements vary by county and city, and burn bans are common in dry months, so check before any burning. Forestry mulching doesn't need one, because nothing gets burned.

Question 11

Do you offer financing?

Accepted Answer

Yes — financing is available for larger projects. Once you've accepted your quote, we'll walk you through the options so the payments fit your project timeline and budget.
