It's a common pitch, but the reality is the opposite. Conventional clearing is often a way to charge you twice for your own property's resources. First, a large crew charges a premium to hand-cut and stack your brush. Then they charge you per load to haul those piles away as 'waste.' Finally, that 'waste' gets ground into mulch and sold to landscaping supply yards — meaning you paid for the labor, paid for the fuel, and lost the organic nutrients your soil needs, while the contractor collects a second paycheck. Most projects fall between $1,800 and $4,500 per acre. The range depends on four things: brush density, slope, rock, and site access. Lighter post-oak and mesquite pasture east of I-35 typically runs $1,800–$2,800. Average Hill Country cedar runs $2,300–$3,500. Rocky and sloped areas typical of the Hill Country run $2,700–$4,500. What's cheaper — forestry mulching or bulldozing?

On a strict per-hour basis, a dozer can be cheaper. But once you add slash-pile burning, haul-off, topsoil restoration, and the months it takes for grass to come back, mulching almost always wins on total project cost. Mulching also leaves a moisture-holding soil-protective layer that suppresses regrowth — which dozer work doesn't.

Most residential lots are completed in 1–2 days. Larger ranch jobs run 3–7 days depending on acreage and density. Multi-lot subdivisions are usually a week or less.

Will your equipment damage my property?

Our machines use rubber tracks that distribute weight evenly, minimizing ground disturbance. In sensitive areas, we use heavy-equipment mats to protect turf. We work around heritage trees, septic fields, and irrigation lines you point out before we start.

Do you remove large trees?

We specialize in brush, saplings, and trees up to about 12 inches. For larger trees we can fell, cut and haul off, use a dedicated chipper, or stack. We will also selectively work around mature trees you want to preserve — heritage live oaks, post oaks, pecans, and specimen trees.

Will the brush grow back after mulching?

Cedar (Ashe juniper) doesn't re-sprout from the stump, so once it's mulched, it's gone. Mesquite and some hardwoods can root-sucker, but the mulch layer slows regrowth dramatically. Many clients overseed with native grasses or wildflowers to prevent regrowth and improve the look. Most properties stay clean for 3–5 years before needing a touch-up.

Accepted Answer

No. That's one of the biggest advantages of forestry mulching — there's nothing to burn, so no burn permit, no smoke, no neighbor complaints, and no risk of escaped fire. Everything is ground in place into mulch.
